William Eakin is a photographer living and working in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he was born in 1952. He studied art at the Vancouver School of Art and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts.
Eakin's photographs draw upon the cultural iconography of the West. Often depicting vintage cowboy figurines and Western collectibles, his photographs stage insight into the manufacturing of the Western image and cowboy culture. Eakin is the recipient of numerous awards from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Manitoba Arts Council, including the Duke and Duchess of York Prize for Photography, and his work can be found in numerous public and private collections across the country.
